NEWARK SUSTAINABILITY LEADER KAREN BROWN-STOVELL NAMED TO STATEWIDE BUSINESS COUNCIL
Published August 24, 2017 | Brick City Live
Newark’s Karen Brown-Stovell had joined a group business leaders across the state for the New Jersey Sustainable Business Council (NJSBC), a new alliance of business organizations and businesses working to promote a more vibrant and sustainable economic future in the state.
NJSBC is the New Jersey affiliate of the American Sustainability Business Council (ASBC). Members can showcase the business benefits of sustainability while influencing public policy that encourages making a profit in an environmentally and socially responsible manner.
“There are significant economic advantages that come from making your business more sustainable,” said Richard Lawton, Executive Director of NJSBC, according to a statement about the council.
NJSBC is headed by a group of business experts with proven track records for doing well while protecting the planet. Brown-Stovell is the current Executive Director of Forward Ever Sustainable Business Alliance, an organization that promotes localism and business sustainability in Greater Newark through programming and partnerships. She is working with the Newark CEDC to execute the Newark Buy Local Program, which will offer property tax credits to local property owners—and cash rewards to renters, students, commuters, and visitors—for shopping with local businesses.
The council also includes:
Sally Malanga, West Orange, founder of intelligent beauty brand Ecco Bella
William P. O’Hearn, Ringwood, communications coordinator for Business Network for Offshore Wind
Barbara George Johnson, Trenton, executive director for John S. Watson Institute for Public Policy
Joe Janssen, Parsippany, C.O.O. Manufacturing for Earth Friendly Products
Raymond Perry, Parsippany, managing partner of New Jersey Green Energy Consulting
Michelle E. Richardson, Jersey City, executive director of Hudson county Economic Development Corporation
Kyle Tafuri, Hackensack, director of sustainability of Hackensack-Meridian Health
Kim Knight, Hillsborough, business development and marketing coordinator of Natural Resource Systems
“We established the American Sustainable Business Council in 2009 because we saw a niche that wasn’t being directly addressed by other business groups,” explained David Levine, CEO and Co-Founder of the American Sustainable Business Council. “Business leaders needed a way to shape public policy and help lead the transition to a sustainable economy.”
