Inaugural Newark First Fridays kicks off downtown on May 5th
by Brick City Live | April 17, 2017
After months of planning and a crowdfunding campaign that raised nearly $3,500, Newark First Fridays will kick off its first season when it launches downtown on May 5th. The festival will take place on Halsey Street between Warren and New Streets from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Newark First Fridays is still accepting applications for festival team members and volunteers, as well as staged and street performers, and non-profit and services information tables. Applications for all opportunities and roles are available on Newark First Fridays’ newly launched website.
One of the primary goals of the art walk series’ crowdfunding campaign was to defray the cost of vendor fees and keep the price of entry low. Vendor space will range between $50 and $65 per day for a 10×10 space–vendors who apply by April 28th will be offered a slot for free for the May event.
Newark First Fridays is organized by Newark-based creative service agency GalleryRetail. In producing the monthly festival, they hope to establish a consistent art, music, food and cultural community event in Newark. Similar events have become local phenomena in recent years in cities from Philadelphia to Oakland.
