Glamorous Life: At Bella Nail Lounge and Beauty Bar, royal decor matches the royal treatment
by Arieal Paul/December 7, 2016
Bella Nail Lounge and Beauty Bar is out-of-this world fabulous–the kind of place where it’s obvious that its owner, Lisa Allen, really thought about providing a great customer experience every step of the way. Spoiler alert: she succeeded hands down.
The new beauty spot, which debuted in Teacher’s Village downtown Newark in October, is a place where anyone in the area who likes to treat her- or himself should don an invisible crown (or a real one if you have it) and just go for it.
I repeat: Bella is also for the fellas.
The impressive décor, from the walls down to the tables, plush chairs, sinks and faucets, uses a palette of pink and gold to create an air of accessible luxury.
And although Bella is a nail salon, smells of acrylic and acetone didn’t bear down on me when I visited. Instead, notes of citrus and sweet vanilla aromas filled the air, sourced in part from all the handmade scrubs, lotions, and soaps Bella uses on their clients.
Always game to do hands-on research (pun intended), I treated myself to a pedicure. The service area was inviting, with oversized, throne-style gold seating, tastefully opulent chandeliers, comfy pillows, and marble-like deep basin bowls. Being offered a glass of wine was definitely a treat. As for the selection, Bella offers many gel colors and brands, including Christian Louboutin, Tom Ford, OPI and Essie.
In addition to manis and pedis, Bella also offers an array of other services, including waxing, lash extensions, makeup application and other spa treatments. A private area is available for when services require a little privacy.
I sat down with Lisa to chat about her new venture. “I wanted to open a salon in my hometown, and bring something with a different feel to the community,” she told me. “I did a lot of research, planning, marketing and website development. I also hired an interior designer to pull all my ideas together.” That explains the incredibly well-appointed interior.
Now Lisa is focused on building clientele and providing great service after putting so much time and thinking into preparing for Bella’s opening. “It took 11 months to open, and now I just want Bella to be great,” she said.
Lisa and here team are definitely off to a great start.
