Free digital design and development classes will be offered at NAN Techworld in Newark starting February 27th. The classes will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The free, hands-on classes will be open to high school students and young adults aged 25 and younger. Instruction will run for eight weeks, will include sessions covering design thinking, prototyping, web design and marketing, and will wrap up with a final presentation of participant projects.
NAN Techworld is a community hub for technology education that launched in October of 2016. The National Action Network (NAN) initiative is funded primarily by Panasonic, which moved its North American headquarters to Newark in 2013. The hub is located in the building formerly occupied by the South Ward Boys & Girls Club at 400 Hawthorne Avenue.
In addition to tech classes, the facility has also been a host to other community events and conversations, including a Thanksgiving Day dinner last fall, and an upcoming session about bail reform to be hosted by the New Jersey Social Justice Institute.
