Get ready for the 50th annual African-American Heritage Statewide Parade & Festival this Memorial Weekend
by Brick City Live | May 25, 2017
Mayor Ras Baraka himself will play the role of Grand Marshall when the Annual African-American Day Parade rolls down Broad Street this coming Sunday, May 28th. The parade, which celebrates a 50-year milestone this year, will commence on Broad Street at noon.
The weekend will also entail the Weequahic Park festival that accompanies the parade. The festival will take place Friday, May 26th through Monday, May 29th (Memorial Day), and include a family-friendly roster of events and attractions including carnival rides, vendors, live entertainment, pony rides, a college fair and a health pavilion.
The parade debuted as the Crispus Attucks Parade in the mid-1960s and is now the largest celebration of Black culture in the state. Attucks, a Black freedman, was the first American to be killed in the Revolutionary War.
