In Brief: Newark’s latest export is an entrepreneurship program for creatives
Published July 17, 2018 | Brick City Live
In 2016 Rutgers-Newark introduced a program, Newark Business Hub, which is meant to help artists and creatives shore up their entrepreneurship and business skills back. Now, two years later, the pioneering program model is being tried out in Tennessee.
ArtUp, an award-winning program for creative entrepreneurs in Memphis, kicked off the Memphis Business Hub for Creatives Program with an information session this past weekend and a panel on Monday.
ArtUp CEO Linda Steele said the program is meant to change the paradigm for how artists make money “from the gigging and part-time, starving artist to a thriving creative business owner and creative entrepreneur.” Similar to the Newark version of the program, the Memphis program will give its participants access to business mentors and coaches, business classes, professional services, and business planning education.
