Leaders Create Leaders, a four-part branded podcast series sponsored by Prudential, kicked off on Thursday, May 24 in front of a live audience at the GRAMMY Museum Experience, housed inside Newark’s Prudential Center.
The “fireside chat”-style interviews are being hosted by Gerard Adams, the CEO founder of Fownders, a “learning platform for entrepreneurs by entrepreneurs.” Branded as the “Millennial Mentor,” Adams launched Leaders Create Leaders as a YouTube video series in 2016, highlighting world-renowned innovators across multiple disciplines
This new podcast companion echoes this formula, with Adams spotlighting entrepreneurial leaders and influencers from around Newark and beyond. The first episode welcomed author and motivational speaker Yahya Bakkar, and founder of the Newark Radio Co-Op (Newark.fm), Brittany Jade.
Adams is an experienced interviewer, and his calm, supportive demeanor invited a friendly flow of conversation, perfectly suited to the intimate studio space inside the GRAMMY Museum Experience where the event was held. Laughter, and several gems of knowledge emerged throughout the evening as audience members from all walks of life listened intently.
An impassioned and charming personality, Bakkar led the audience through his upbringing, and how an interesting and unexpected series of events led him to a successful career in public speaking and life coaching. Jade detailed her leap of faith, escaping the gravitational pull of a successful, but unfulfilling media production career in the reality television universe, to launch an internet radio station in the heart of Newark.
The lineup for Leaders Create Leaders features four Newark-based entrepreneurs: Brittany Jade, founder of Newark Radio Co-op (May 24, 2018); Andaiye Taylor, founder of BrickCityLive.com (June 7, 2018); Naseed Gifted, co-founder of PBS Media and co-creator of PB Soldier (June 21, 2018); and Lauren Craig, marketing manager at Newark Arts and “Glambassador” for the city (July 12, 2018).
Both Bakkar and Jade were inspiring in their every-person relatability, detailing their respective struggles with finding a desirable path in a world that often squelches self-guided genius, particularly when that brilliance emanates from people of color. They both spoke to how societal pressures, expectations and a lack of corporate diversity can complicate the traditional career path, but can help act as a driving force behind these sorts of entrepreneurial impulses.
Attendees were treated to a pre-and post-event open bar, and were free to network and explore the GRAMMY Museum Experience in between the two interviews. The venue itself boasts an assortment of paraphernalia and displays which highlight some of the nation’s most popular and influential musical works.
The series, co-produced by Newark-based podcast production house, ABF Creative, will consist of three more similarly structured events, each revolving around a different theme, and featuring notable innovators from the arts world, as well as finance, journalism and health fields.
The initial evening was billed, “Motivation: Using Your Story to Impact the World.” The “Entrepreneurship” episode will be recorded live on June 7, and will feature John Henry, venture partner at Harlem Capital Partners, and Andaiye Taylor, the founder and editor of BrickCityLive.com.

The series will continue with “Creativity” on June 21, with contemporary artist Lawrence Atoigue, aka Naturel, and founder of Newark-based P.B. Soldier Comics, Naseed Gifted, and will culminate on July 12 with “Wellness,” featuring speaker and health activist Haile Thomas and Newark “Glambassador” and founder of EWR Brand Water, Lauren Craig.
Adams is clearly excited to continue spotlighting Newark’s upcoming power brokers, particularly in partnership with one of the city’s most ardent corporate supporters. “I had always dreamed of working with Prudential in honor of my father’s sacrifice and hard work over the last 30 years,” he told Brick City Live. “Now that dream comes true.”
Soon after the series culminates, the podcast will be made available to the general public and be available on podcast platforms including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Play and Stitcher.
