Garden State Rollergirls recruiting “fresh meat,” roller derby beginners welcome
January 28, 2019
If you ever wanted to strap on skates and give roller derby a try, here’s your chance.
The Garden State Rollergirls roller derby league is looking for “fresh meat,” and will be staging a fun, safe recruitment event for skaters of all skill level.
Under the watchful eye of BlackEye Betty and Diem Zee skaters will learn the basics of the sport, while getting in some fun exercise time as well.
“Our Fresh Meat class is really a unique experience where you not only get in better shape while building the foundations for roller derby, but you also develop some amazing friendships along the way,” said Diem. “There really is a unique bond you form from all the literal ups and downs of skating.”
The league skates at locations in Newark and North Arlington.
As their website says, “No experience? No problem! If you want to learn to skate and play roller derby alongside some of New Jersey’s best, all you need is gear and a positive attitude! Everything else, we can teach you.”
The “Fresh Meat” event will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 16 at the Inline Skating Club of America, located at 170 Schuyler Ave., North Arlington.
To sign up for the event, email firstname.lastname@example.org. There is a $10 registration fee per person, and loaner gear can be made available upon request.
