She Wins! Inc., a Newark-based nonprofit dedicated to “creating a pipeline of college, career, and community-ready young women,” is hosting a father-daughter dance event.
My Princess and Me: Father-Daughter Dance will take place on Saturday, December 15, 2018, from 4:30 p.m. through 7:30 p.m. at the Thrive/Bold Academy (formerly 18th Avenue School), 229 18th Avenue, Newark.
SHE Wins! Inc. was founded by A’Dorian Murray-Thomas in an effort to provide support services for young women and girls in Newark, particularly those affected by violence. Murray-Thomas herself lost her father to gun violence at an early age, and credits the strength and support of her mother and community for helping to see her through.
Ticketed by Brick City Live Register here to create ticketed events.
It was in this spirit that she founded SHE Wins!, to help uplift other girls facing similar hardships. In 2016, the Obama administration named Murray-Thomas, a Swarthmore College graduate, a “Champion of Change for College Opportunity” for her efforts, and she continues to positively impact the lives of many members in her community through her work. Glamour Magazine named her a 2016 College Woman of the Year.
Tickets for My Princess and Me: Father~Daughter Dance can be purchased exclusively through Eventbrite. Tickets must be purchased in advance, as no tickets will be sold at the door. For more information, call 862-259-2WIN (2946).
All proceeds will go toward funding tuition-free social action and leadership programs for Newark girls.
