Newark Arts Council: Grants and artist opportunities

Published January 30, 2019 | Manny Faces

ARTSTART GRANT PROGRAM

The Newark Arts Council is currently accepting applications for its ArtStart Grants Program, and lists several other opportunities for artists on their website, www.newarkarts.org.

Launched in 2001, the ArtStart Grants Program aims to “nurture arts and cultural activities throughout the city,” particularly those which involve young people, funding both individuals and organizations. The program awards several grants each cycle, providing up to $3,000 each. To date, Newark Arts has awarded more than 200 ArtStart grants, totaling more than $500,000.

The application period is open. Interested parties must provide a detailed proposal, including budgeting and program description. The application period closes March 22, 2019.

NOTE: According to the organization, first-time applicants had to have attended one of three “information sessions” which took place in January. Those who have applied in the past are allowed to submit again without having attended this year’s sessions.

For more information on the ArtStart Grants Program, contact Newark Arts at 973-643-1625, or info@newarkarts.org.

ARTIST OPPORTUNITIES

Artists from all disciplines can find open opportunities, including calls for artists, grant awards, studio space offerings and more on the Newark Arts Council website.

The OPPORTUNITY LISTINGS section provides an ongoing resource for artists seeking a space to work or showcase, as well as contests and grants announcements, casting calls, job openings, fellowship opportunities and more.

Organizations seeking artists can add their own opportunities to the list, while artists can subscribe to the Artists/Arts Organization newsletter to stay on top of new opportunities.

Visit www.newarkarts.com to view the listings and learn about all of the programs, events, and resources that the Newark Arts Council offers.
