BrickCityLive.com: Tell us how you met.
Karen: We met on a blind date that was set up by our mutual friend Donna.
Donna and I were friends and colleagues. She tried for almost two years to connect us, even though she hadn’t seen Arnold in years. When she told me she had the perfect guy for me but hadn’t seen him in years, I laughed and forgot about it. But she didn’t.
When she finally found him and told him that she had the perfect person for him — that was me — he laughed and told her he was seriously dating someone and had planned to propose. Donna told him, “Call me when you break up!” I couldn’t believe she told him that.
The rest is history: they broke up, and months later the three of us met at Justin’s — P. Diddy’s spot — in New York City. Arnold and I both knew right away that Donna was right.
BrickCityLive.com: Tell us about a favorite memory you have together.
Karen: Our wedding! We had a very romantic destination wedding, before they were popular, in Ochos Rio, Jamaica with 35 of our closest friends and family. We were there for two weeks. We toured the country, stayed in Negril for our honeymoon, toured the Marley estate, and spent the day with the Rasta community talking about Bob, eating the best vegan food I’ve ever had and listening to the best music imaginable.
BrickCityLive.com: As a couple, what is your favorite location in Newark?
Karen: Oh there are so many. Our favorite restaurant is Fernandes Steakhouse in the Ironbound. We also love Branch Brook park, the Halsey Street corridor, and NJPAC.
