Newark, get your taxes prepared for free with New Jersey Citizen Action

For households making $54,000 or less in 2017, New Jersey Citizen Action offers free tax preparation services as part of their Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
NJCA’ s free tax preparation service helps local families take advantage of all of the tax credits they are eligible for including the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), Child Tax Credit (CTC), and education credits. Those who qualify for the EITC could receive up to $6,318 in tax refunds.
Since first launching their program in 2007, Citizen Action said they have provided more than 36,627 low-income workers with their free tax preparation services, returning more than $59.6 million in refunds to New Jersey families.
The services are available in English and Spanish, and IRS-certified staff prepares and electronically files federal and New Jersey state tax returns for individuals and families.
HOURS OF OPERATION AND LOCATIONS:
NJCA provides free tax preparation services at their Economic Security Center located at 165 Halsey Street in Newark, NJ 07102 (between Market and Bank Streets). Contact their main office at 973-273-0315. for additional information and to schedule an appointment; the center does not accept walk-ins.
